Company intelligence / Profile preview
Cohesion Technologies was a biotechnology and medical device company that specialized in the development of advanced surgical sealants, adhesives, and hemostatic products. Spun off from Collagen Corporation in 1998, the company leveraged its proprietary biopolymer platform to create solutions for wound management and the prevention of post-surgical complications. Its lead product, CoSeal, is a synthetic hydrogel sealant designed to prevent fluid and gas leaks during vascular and cardiac surgeries. Another significant product, CoStasis, utilized a combination of bovine thrombin and collagen to facilitate rapid hemostasis in various surgical settings. The company's pipeline also included candidates for the prevention of post-operative tissue adhesions. Cohesion Technologies was acquired by Angiotech Pharmaceuticals in 2003 for approximately $41 million to bolster their biomaterials portfolio.
