The Collaborative Group was a prominent biotechnology and specialty chemicals company based in Stony Brook, New York, that focused on the development of advanced delivery systems and active ingredients. The company was a pioneer in the use of liposomes and other encapsulation technologies for the personal care and pharmaceutical industries. It operated through several specialized divisions, including Collaborative Laboratories for ingredient manufacturing and Collaborative BioAlliance for biopharmaceutical contract manufacturing. In addition to its delivery systems, the group provided DNA-based testing and authentication services. The company was acquired by Engelhard Corporation in 2004 for approximately $21.5 million, and its operations were subsequently integrated into BASF following BASF's acquisition of Engelhard in 2006.
