Company intelligence / Profile preview
Collagen Aesthetics, Inc. was a pioneering medical technology company focused on collagen-based solutions for aesthetic and reconstructive medicine. Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, the company developed the first FDA-approved injectable collagen fillers, Zyderm and Zyplast, which became the gold standard for treating facial wrinkles and scars in the 1980s and 1990s. Beyond aesthetics, the company marketed Contigen for the treatment of urinary incontinence and collaborated on bioengineered human collagen products. In 1999, the company was acquired by Inamed Corporation for approximately $142 million, a move that consolidated the leading dermal filler and breast implant portfolios. Through subsequent mergers, its legacy products and technologies were integrated into Allergan and eventually AbbVie.
