Colloral

AutoImmune Inc. was a biopharmaceutical company that pioneered the development of "oral tolerance" therapies for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Its lead candidate, Colloral (an oral formulation of chicken type II collagen), was designed to treat rheumatoid arthritis by inducing mucosal tolerance, but it failed to meet primary endpoints in a pivotal Phase 3 trial in 1999. The company also developed Myloral for multiple sclerosis and partnered with the NIH on oral insulin for type 1 diabetes. Following the clinical failure of its drug candidates, AutoImmune transitioned Colloral into a dietary supplement marketed through a joint venture, Colloral LLC, and the company was eventually dissolved in 2010.
