Columbia Homecare Group was a prominent home health care subsidiary of Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corporation (now HCA Healthcare). At its peak in the mid-1990s, it was one of the largest home health providers in the United States, offering skilled nursing, therapy, and home health aide services. The company is most notable for its involvement in a landmark healthcare fraud case, which resulted in a 2000 plea agreement where it admitted to conspiracy to defraud the United States and violating the Medicare Anti-kickback Statute. Following the legal settlements and a corporate restructuring of its parent company, the group's operations were largely divested or discontinued as HCA shifted its focus away from the home care sector. The group's dissolution marked a significant turning point in the regulation and oversight of the American home healthcare industry.
