Combinent BioMedical Systems

Combinent BioMedical Systems was a specialty biotechnology company focused on developing innovative drug delivery platforms for women's health and other chronic conditions. Founded by renowned MIT professor Robert Langer and MGH clinician William Crowley, the company developed a proprietary multi-segmented intravaginal ring (IVR) technology. This platform allowed for the simultaneous and controlled release of diverse therapeutic agents, including small molecules, hormones, and large proteins, which are typically difficult to deliver via the vaginal route. While the company demonstrated human clinical validation for its delivery system, it is currently defunct, with its intellectual property having influenced subsequent developments in the women's health sector.
