Combioxin’s lead asset, CAL02, is a novel first-in-class anti-toxin agent using engineered liposomes to neutralize bacterial virulence factors. It is being developed for severe community-acquired bacterial pneumonia and has received FDA Fast Track and Qualified Infectious Disease Product (QIDP) designations. A global Phase 2 clinical study is underway. Early clinical results published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases described the approach as a “medical breakthrough.” In August 2021, Eagle Pharmaceuticals obtained worldwide commercial rights to CAL02.
