Community Blood Bank of the Lancaster Medical Society

The Community Blood Bank of the Lancaster Medical Society was a non-profit healthcare organization based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, dedicated to the collection and distribution of blood products. Established in 1945 by the local medical society, it served as the primary supplier of life-saving blood components to hospitals throughout Lancaster County for over five decades. The organization operated donor centers and mobile collection units, focusing on volunteer recruitment to maintain a safe and adequate blood supply for the community. Its services included the processing of whole blood into specialized components such as red blood cells, plasma, and platelets for use in surgeries and trauma care. In 1999, the blood bank merged with Miller-Keystone Blood Center to consolidate resources and improve regional transfusion medicine services.
