Community Health of East Tennessee

Community Health of East Tennessee (CHET) is a non-profit healthcare organization dedicated to providing comprehensive medical, dental, and behavioral health services to underserved populations in East Tennessee. Founded in 1980 as a specialized clinic for coal miners with respiratory ailments, the organization has since expanded into a multi-faceted community resource offering primary care, substance use treatment, and domestic violence support. CHET operates several key programs, including the Black Lung Clinic, the Family Services Center, and a Recovery Court initiative designed to provide justice-involved individuals with intensive treatment. The organization utilizes a sliding fee scale to ensure accessibility for uninsured and low-income residents, maintaining a mission of "Answering the Need" within the rural Appalachian region.
