SciClone Pharmaceuticals is a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on oncology and infectious diseases, primarily serving the Greater China market. The company is best known for its flagship product, Zadaxin (thymalfasin), which is widely used as an immune adjuvant for the treatment of hepatitis B and certain cancers. Originally a U.S.-based public company, SciClone was taken private in 2017 by a consortium of Chinese partners led by GL Capital Group and subsequently shifted its strategic focus and headquarters to Shanghai. The company maintains a robust commercial portfolio and pipeline through strategic in-licensing agreements with global biopharmaceutical firms, including Melinta Therapeutics and Theravance Biopharma. In 2024, SciClone was taken private again from the Hong Kong Stock Exchange by its controlling shareholders to further streamline its operations.
