Company intelligence / Profile preview
ContraVac was a privately held biotechnology company focused on male reproductive health and at-home fertility diagnostics. The company commercialized FDA-cleared home sperm-count immunoassay products under the SpermCheck brand, including tests for fertility assessment and post-vasectomy confirmation, and also marketed FertileCheck fertility gel. Its core technology was developed in collaboration with the University of Virginia and was based on detection of the sperm-specific antigen SP-10. ContraVac was acquired by DNA Diagnostics Center in May 2018, with the transaction including all company assets and the business relocating to DDC's headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio. Prior to the acquisition, ContraVac operated from Charlottesville, Virginia and targeted consumer reproductive-health testing sold through retail and online channels.
