Company intelligence / Profile preview
Copley Pharmaceutical was a prominent American manufacturer of generic drugs, established in 1972 and headquartered in Canton, Massachusetts. The company developed and marketed a diverse portfolio of multisource pharmaceuticals, including solid orals, topicals, and inhalation products. During the early 1990s, Copley was recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in the pharmaceutical industry before encountering significant regulatory and legal hurdles. A major recall of its albuterol sulfate inhalation solution in 1994 led to substantial product liability litigation and impacted the company's market standing. In 1993, Hoechst Celanese acquired a majority stake in the company, which was later fully acquired by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries in 1999. Today, Copley's operations and product lines have been fully integrated into Teva's global generic business.
