Company intelligence / Profile preview
CoreValve was a cardiovascular medical device company that developed catheter-based transcatheter aortic valve replacement technologies for patients with severe aortic stenosis and related aortic valve disease. Founded in 2001 by cardiac surgeon Jacques Seguin, the company pioneered a self-expanding prosthetic aortic valve system designed to replace failing aortic valves without open-heart surgery. Its lead product platform, often referred to as the CoreValve or ReValving System, became one of the early foundational technologies in TAVR. Medtronic signed a definitive agreement to acquire CoreValve in February 2009 for an upfront payment of $700 million plus milestone-based consideration, and subsequently integrated the business into its structural heart portfolio. The legacy CoreValve technology now underpins Medtronic's Evolut TAVR franchise.
