Coulter Pharmaceutical was a clinical-stage biotechnology company dedicated to developing targeted therapies for cancer and autoimmune diseases. The company's flagship program was Bexxar, a first-in-class radioimmunotherapy consisting of the monoclonal antibody tositumomab linked to the radioisotope iodine-131. This therapeutic approach was designed to target the CD20 antigen on B-cells, delivering lethal radiation directly to malignant cells in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Coulter was a pioneer in the field of radioimmunotherapy, navigating complex regulatory and manufacturing hurdles associated with radioactive biologics. In 2000, the company was acquired by Corixa Corporation in a deal valued at approximately $900 million, and the technology eventually became part of GlaxoSmithKline's oncology portfolio.
