Company intelligence / Profile preview
CR Intrinsic Investors was a Stamford-based hedge fund advisory firm and a subsidiary of SAC Capital Advisors, founded by Steven A. Cohen. The firm is primarily known for its central role in a record-breaking $276 million insider trading scheme involving clinical trial results for the Alzheimer's drug bapineuzumab, which was being developed by Elan and Wyeth. In 2013, CR Intrinsic agreed to pay a $602 million settlement to the SEC, the largest insider trading settlement in history at the time. Following the legal fallout and the restructuring of SAC Capital into Point72 Asset Management, the firm ceased active operations. Its legacy remains a significant case study in the intersection of expert networks, clinical trial confidentiality, and financial regulation.
