Crealta Pharmaceuticals

Crealta Pharmaceuticals was a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the acquisition and commercialization of medicines for niche patient populations and orphan diseases. Formed in 2013 through a partnership between the private equity firm GTCR and a veteran management team, the company specialized in rheumatology and rare conditions. Its flagship product was Krystexxa (pegloticase), a biologic treatment for chronic refractory gout, which Crealta acquired from the bankruptcy of Savient Pharmaceuticals. The company successfully revitalized the commercial performance of Krystexxa before being acquired by Horizon Pharma in 2016. This acquisition served as a cornerstone for Horizon's expansion into the orphan drug and rheumatology markets.
