Cutanea Lifesciences was a specialty pharmaceutical company dedicated to the development and commercialization of innovative therapies for dermatological diseases. The company successfully brought to market Xepi (ozenoxacin), a novel non-fluorinated quinolone for the treatment of impetigo, and Aktipak, a combination therapy for acne vulgaris. Beyond its commercial products, Cutanea advanced a clinical pipeline that included omiganan, a cationic antimicrobial peptide for rosacea, and cantharidin for the treatment of common warts. The company utilized proprietary drug delivery technologies to enhance the efficacy and safety of topical treatments. Although acquired by the Japanese pharmaceutical firm Maruho in 2012, Cutanea Lifesciences ceased operations in 2019 following a strategic decision by its parent company to exit the U.S. commercial dermatology market.
