Cydan Therapeutics

Cydan was a private rare-disease drug accelerator based in Cambridge, Massachusetts that focused on identifying, in-licensing, and de-risking therapies for underserved rare genetic and monogenic diseases. Rather than commercializing products itself, the company advanced selected programs through preclinical development and then formed stand-alone companies to take assets into the clinic and toward commercialization. Cydan helped launch multiple spinouts, including Vtesse, Imara, and Tiburio, around programs in Niemann-Pick disease type C, sickle cell disease, and rare endocrine disorders. Its model combined external sourcing from academia, biotech, pharma, and government with a capital-efficient development approach and close ties to investors, patient communities, and scientific collaborators.
