Cyplasin Biomedical was a specialty pharmaceutical company based in Edmonton, Canada, focused on developing vaccines and antiviral therapies for chronic diseases. The company's core technology utilized virus-like particles (VLPs) to create "Auto-Antibody Drugs" (AADs), which were designed to stimulate the immune system to target specific disease antigens. Its lead programs included a Hepatitis C vaccine licensed from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Cyplasin, a recombinant cytotoxic protein derived from the sea hare Aplysia punctata for treating melanoma. In 2011, the company rebranded as Compass Biotechnologies to pivot toward the biosimilar market, specifically targeting pegylated interferon for Hepatitis C. However, the company has since ceased active operations and its regulatory status has been revoked.
