Delta Health Center

Delta Health Center, Inc. is a historic healthcare organization based in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, recognized as the first rural Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in the United States. Founded in 1965 by Dr. H. Jack Geiger and Dr. Count Gibson of Tufts University, the center was established as a pioneering model to address the social determinants of health in the impoverished Mississippi Delta. It provides a comprehensive range of services, including primary medical care, dental services, pediatrics, women's health, and pharmacy services, regardless of a patient's ability to pay. The center remains a vital community institution, operating a network of clinics across multiple counties and participating in clinical research initiatives focused on nutrition and chronic disease management.
