Deprenyl Animal Health was a specialized veterinary pharmaceutical company that pioneered the use of selegiline hydrochloride for age-related conditions in companion animals. The company is best known for developing Anipryl, the first FDA-approved treatment for canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome and pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism in dogs. Founded in 1989, the company played a critical role in establishing the field of geriatric veterinary medicine by addressing neurodegenerative and endocrine disorders in aging pets. Its research focused on the neuroprotective properties of monoamine oxidase B inhibitors. In 1998, the company was acquired by Pfizer Animal Health for approximately $60 million, and its products were later integrated into the Zoetis portfolio.
