Deseret Medical was a pioneering medical device company primarily known for its innovations in vascular access and surgical products. Originally founded as Deseret Pharmaceutical Company in 1956, it became a dominant force in the intravenous catheter market with the development of the Angiocath. The company was acquired by Warner-Lambert in 1976 and subsequently sold to Becton Dickinson (BD) in 1986 for approximately $230 million. Its technologies and brands remain integral components of BD's infusion therapy and infection prevention portfolios. The company's legacy is rooted in its significant contributions to the medical device industry in Utah, often referred to as the 'Silicon Slopes' of healthcare.
