Desmond Tutu Health Foundation

Desmond Tutu Health Foundation is a South African registered non-profit health research and service organization affiliated with the Desmond Tutu HIV Centre at the University of Cape Town. Founded in 2004 as the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation and renamed in 2020 to reflect a broader remit, it combines clinical research, community-based programs, and policy engagement focused on HIV, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections, and related public health challenges. The organization operates multiple clinical research and outreach sites in and around Cape Town and the Eastern Cape, with strong capabilities in HIV prevention, treatment delivery, adherence research, adolescent health, key populations, and TB research. Rather than developing proprietary therapeutics as a classic biotech company, DTHF primarily runs investigator-led and partner-sponsored clinical studies, implementation science programs, and community health services.
