Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology

The Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO) is a non-profit research and education center based in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, and serves as the research arm of the Henry Ford Health Department of Ophthalmology. Founded in 1963, the DIO is globally recognized for organizing major international research congresses, including "The Eye and The Chip," which focuses on artificial vision and visual prosthetics, and "The Eye, The Brain and The Auto," which addresses vision-related automotive safety. The institute also provides support groups and resources for the visually impaired and blind community in southeastern Michigan. Since 2012, it has operated as part of the Henry Ford Health System, continuing its mission to advance ophthalmic research and improve the lives of those with vision loss. The DIO is also well-known for its annual EyesOn Design car show, which serves as a primary fundraiser for its research and support programs.
