Company intelligence / Profile preview
Dewey Ballantine LLP was a prestigious global law firm headquartered in New York City, recognized for its expertise in corporate law, litigation, and tax. While not a biotechnology company itself, it was a significant player in the life sciences sector through its specialized legal services, advising major pharmaceutical and biotech firms on high-stakes transactions and intellectual property matters. The firm's Life Sciences and Healthcare practice group provided counsel to industry leaders like Eli Lilly and Blue Cross Blue Shield, particularly in mergers, acquisitions, and regulatory compliance. Founded in 1909, the firm grew into a "white shoe" institution with a storied history, including partners who served in high-level government positions. In 2007, Dewey Ballantine merged with LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae to form Dewey & LeBoeuf, which subsequently collapsed and filed for bankruptcy in 2012.
