Diabetes Vaccine Development Centre

The Diabetes Vaccine Development Centre (DVDC) was an Australian-based initiative established in 2002 as a joint venture between the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). The center operated as a virtual biotechnology company, focusing on accelerating the translation of laboratory research into clinical therapies for the prevention and cure of Type 1 diabetes. By providing both funding and strategic product development expertise, the DVDC supported a portfolio of vaccines and immunotherapies, including GAD65 and proinsulin-based candidates. The organization played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academic discovery and commercial development within the Australian and international diabetes research communities. The DVDC concluded its primary operations and funding mandate in the early 2010s.
