Diversified Specialty Institutes

Diversified Specialty Institutes was a U.S. healthcare services company focused primarily on dialysis and renal care, while also pursuing hospital development, imaging, and related specialty healthcare operations. Founded in 2003 in Nashville, Tennessee, the company expanded rapidly after acquiring more than 100 dialysis clinics from Fresenius Medical Care in 2006, becoming one of the larger independent dialysis providers in the United States. Its operations were centered on in-center hemodialysis, home dialysis-related services, and physician-partnered renal clinic development rather than drug discovery or therapeutics development. The company also promoted modular healthcare facility construction and used internal care-management software in its clinic network. DSI's renal business, DSI Renal, was acquired by DaVita in 2011, and the broader DSI identity does not appear to operate today as an independent active company.
