The company was a leader in the early ag-biotech movement, utilizing proprietary techniques like somaclonal variation to improve traits such as flavor, texture, and shelf-life in produce. DNAP is well-known for its "VegiSnax" brand of snack-sized vegetables and its efforts to commercialize genetically modified crops, including high-solids tomatoes. Following a merger with the Mexican conglomerate Savia in 1996, the company's operations were eventually absorbed into larger industry players like Seminis and Monsanto.
