Doherty Clinical Trials specializes in early-phase clinical research with a focus on human challenge trials—studies where healthy volunteers are deliberately exposed to controlled doses of infectious agents to rapidly assess the efficacy of vaccines and treatments. The organization has launched Australia’s first purpose-built human challenge trial facility, supporting rapid development of new therapies against major infectious diseases. Recent activities include running a large Phase I study of an Australian-developed needle-free avian influenza vaccine using Vaxxas’ High-Density Microarray Patch technology. Other upcoming or ongoing programs target influenza, Strep A, gonorrhoea, and malaria. The center collaborates with academic institutions and biotech companies to accelerate translation from discovery to clinic at lower cost and higher speed than traditional models.
