Dow Pharmaceutical Sciences was a leading dermatology-focused contract research and product development company specializing in topical drug formulations for pharmaceutical and biotech clients. At the time of its acquisition by Valeant Pharmaceuticals in December 2008 for $285 million, it had one newly approved topical medication and five additional dermatology programs—three of which were in Phase II trials. The company provided end-to-end services including formulation optimization using advanced permeation models, regulatory consulting, analytical support, cGMP clinical manufacturing and labeling. Its expertise spanned both small molecules and combination drugs for skin diseases such as acne vulgaris and rosacea.
