Company intelligence / Profile preview
Dowpharma was a specialized business unit of The Dow Chemical Company that provided contract development and manufacturing services (CDMO) to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The unit was best known for its proprietary Pfenex Expression Technology, a platform based on Pseudomonas fluorescens used for the efficient production of recombinant proteins and biosimilars. In addition to biologics, Dowpharma offered advanced chemical synthesis services, including chiral chemistry through its Chirotech subsidiary, and drug delivery solutions such as the Meidex platform. In 2009, Dow spun off the Pfenex business into an independent company (Pfenex Inc.), and the remaining Dowpharma assets were eventually integrated into Dow's broader specialty chemicals portfolio or divested.
