Company intelligence / Profile preview
Laboratoires Lactéol, originally established in 1907 as Laboratoires du Dr. Pierre Boucard, is a French pharmaceutical company recognized for its pioneering work in the field of probiotics and postbiotics. The company's flagship product, Lactéol, was developed by Dr. Pierre Boucard using heat-inactivated Lactobacillus LB strains to treat gastrointestinal disorders. This innovation marked one of the earliest therapeutic applications of what are now known as postbiotics, focusing on the restoration of gut microbiota and the prevention of diarrhea. Over the years, the company underwent several ownership changes, including its acquisition by Axcan Pharma in 2002 and its eventual integration into Adare Biome. In 2023, the business was acquired by dsm-firmenich, which continues to manufacture and distribute Lactéol products globally from its facility in Houdan, France.
