Company intelligence / Profile preview
DuoCort was a Swedish specialty pharmaceutical company dedicated to improving the lives of patients with rare endocrine disorders. The company's primary achievement was the development of Plenadren, a once-daily dual-release oral formulation of hydrocortisone designed to mimic the natural physiological circadian rhythm of cortisol. Plenadren received European marketing authorization in 2011 for the treatment of adrenal insufficiency in adults, providing a significant improvement over traditional immediate-release therapies. Shortly after receiving regulatory approval, DuoCort was acquired by ViroPharma to bolster its rare disease portfolio. Through subsequent acquisitions, the product eventually became part of the Shire and later Takeda portfolios.
