Duramed Research was a specialty pharmaceutical company primarily focused on the development and commercialization of products for women's healthcare. The company gained significant recognition for its innovation in extended-cycle oral contraceptives, such as Seasonale and Seasonique, which reduced the frequency of menstrual periods. Additionally, Duramed was responsible for the commercial success of Plan B, a leading emergency contraceptive. Originally a subsidiary of Duramed Pharmaceuticals, the entity was acquired by Barr Pharmaceuticals in 2001 for approximately $1.8 billion. Following Teva Pharmaceutical Industries' acquisition of Barr in 2008, Duramed's portfolio and research capabilities were integrated into Teva's Women's Health division.
