Eaton Laboratories

Eaton Laboratories was a significant American pharmaceutical firm, originally established as the professional products division of the Norwich Pharmacal Company in 1945. The company gained prominence for its development of nitrofuran chemistry, leading to the creation of widely used anti-infectives like Furadantin and Macrodantin. It was also responsible for the commercialization of the muscle relaxant Dantrium and the well-known gastrointestinal treatment Pepto-Bismol. In 1982, the company, then known as Norwich Eaton, was acquired by Procter & Gamble, marking its transition into a major consumer health and pharmaceutical division. Throughout its history, Eaton was recognized for its focus on primary care and specialty therapeutics, particularly in infectious disease and gastroenterology. Its legacy continues through its products, many of which remain standard treatments in their respective fields today.
