Company intelligence / Profile preview
Ecophos was a Belgian chemical technology company specializing in the production of high-quality phosphate products for the feed, food, and pharmaceutical industries. The company developed a proprietary, energy-efficient process to recover phosphorus from low-grade sources and waste materials, such as fly ash. Its primary products included dicalcium phosphate (DCP), which is widely used as a nutritional supplement in animal feed and as an excipient in pharmaceutical tablet formulations. Headquartered in Louvain-la-Neuve, the company expanded globally with a major manufacturing site in Dunkirk, France, operated under its Aliphos subsidiary. Despite its innovative technology and market position, Ecophos encountered significant financial difficulties and was declared bankrupt in 2020. Following the bankruptcy, its intellectual property and the Dunkirk production facility were acquired by the Belgian phosphate producer Prayon.
