EDEN Bioscience

EDEN Bioscience was an agricultural biotechnology company that pioneered the use of harpin proteins to stimulate natural plant defense and growth mechanisms. Based on technology licensed from Cornell University, the company developed products like Messenger that triggered systemic acquired resistance (SAR) in crops, providing protection against a broad spectrum of diseases and pests while enhancing yield. Although the company successfully achieved EPA registration and commercialized several products, it struggled with market adoption and financial sustainability. In 2007, EDEN Bioscience sold its harpin technology and intellectual property to Plant Health Care and subsequently completed a formal liquidation process.
