Education Corporation of America

Education Corporation of America (ECA) was a large private, for-profit operator of career colleges across the United States, managing brands such as Virginia College and Brightwood College. While not a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company, ECA was a significant provider of healthcare-related vocational training, offering programs in nursing, medical assisting, and dental hygiene. At its peak, the company operated over 70 campuses and served approximately 20,000 students. In December 2018, ECA abruptly ceased all operations and closed its campuses following the loss of its accreditation and severe financial instability. The collapse resulted in the displacement of thousands of students and employees and led to extensive legal and regulatory oversight.
