EFS Besançon

EFS Besançon is a regional center of the Établissement Français du Sang, the French national blood service, which has evolved into a major player in the field of advanced therapies. The Besançon facility is home to one of Europe's largest GMP platforms for the production of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs), including cell and gene therapies. It focuses on the development of innovative treatments such as CAR-T cells and mesenchymal stem cell therapies for oncology and inflammatory conditions. The center operates as both a research hub and a contract manufacturing organization (CMO) for clinical-grade biological products. It is a key component of the regional RIGHT (Research and Innovation in Gene and Human Therapy) ecosystem. The site is particularly recognized for its expertise in automating cell therapy production through initiatives like the MiMEDI project.
