eggXYt has developed a CRISPR-based proprietary technology that enables non-invasive, pre-incubation sex determination of chicken eggs by placing a biomarker on the male chromosome. This allows hatcheries to identify male eggs immediately after laying—before incubation—eliminating the need to cull billions of male chicks post-hatching. The company claims its solution reduces incubation by up to 50%, slashes costs/waste/emissions, improves animal welfare, and adds value by repurposing non-incubated eggs. Additional pipeline programs include developing avian influenza-resistant chickens via gene editing and platforms for enhanced protein production/cell sorting.
