EiRx Therapeutics

EiRx Therapeutics was an Irish biotechnology company specializing in the discovery of oncology drugs that target the apoptosis (programmed cell death) pathway. The company utilized its proprietary ALIBI (Apoptosis Library Identification) platform, a functional genomics technology, to identify and validate genes involved in cell survival and death. Founded as a spin-out from University College Cork, EiRx established significant research collaborations, including a notable partnership with AstraZeneca to identify novel apoptosis-inducing targets. The company's pipeline primarily consisted of small molecule candidates, such as ERX-101, aimed at treating various forms of cancer by restoring normal cell death mechanisms. EiRx became a public entity through a reverse takeover of Medisys plc and was listed on the London Stock Exchange's AIM market. Despite its innovative platform and early-stage successes, the company encountered financial challenges and was eventually liquidated in 2010.
