Company intelligence / Profile preview
Elan was a leading Irish pharmaceutical company with a focus on neurology and autoimmune diseases. Its most notable commercial product was natalizumab ("Tysabri"), co-developed with Biogen Idec for multiple sclerosis and Crohn’s disease. The company also advanced monoclonal antibody therapies for Alzheimer’s (notably bapineuzumab in partnership with Wyeth), but these did not achieve regulatory approval. After financial turmoil in the early-to-mid–2000s and divestment of key assets like Tysabri rights to Biogen Idec in early–2013, Elan was acquired by Perrigo later that year.
