Company intelligence / Profile preview
Elan Drug Technologies (EDT) was a world-leading drug delivery business and a division of Elan Corporation. The company specialized in the development and manufacture of innovative pharmaceutical products using proprietary delivery technologies to improve drug solubility and controlled release. EDT was most famous for its NanoCrystal technology, which enabled the formulation of poorly water-soluble drugs into stable, injectable, or oral nanoparticle formats. In 2011, the division merged with Alkermes to form Alkermes plc in a transaction valued at approximately $960 million. This strategic combination integrated EDT's formulation expertise with Alkermes' late-stage development and manufacturing capabilities. The legacy of EDT continues through numerous high-profile commercial products, including Invega Sustenna and Rapamune.
