Company intelligence / Profile preview
Elitra Pharmaceuticals was a private antimicrobial drug discovery company based in San Diego, California. The company applied functional genomics and molecular biology tools to identify essential genes in pathogenic bacteria and fungi, with the goal of discovering and developing novel antibiotic and antifungal small-molecule therapies. Its work centered on target identification and early-stage antimicrobial discovery rather than late-stage clinical development. Elitra collaborated with Merck and also had a joint research program with MediChem Life Sciences. The company was ultimately acquired for its assets by Merck in 2004 and is no longer active as an independent operating company.
