This product is a buffered intrathecal electrolyte solution that serves as a standardized diluent for the administration of chemotherapy drugs into the cerebrospinal fluid. It was specifically designed to mimic the composition of human cerebrospinal fluid to minimize complications during intrathecal injections. The company received FDA approval for the solution in 1996, addressing a critical need in neuro-oncology for treating meningeal leukemia. In 1999, the rights to the product were acquired by Orphan Medical, which was later acquired by Jazz Pharmaceuticals.
