Ellipsis Neurotherapeutics

Ellipsis Neurotherapeutics was a Toronto-based biopharmaceutical company focused on developing novel therapeutics for central nervous system (CNS) disorders, particularly Alzheimer's disease and bipolar disorder. The company's lead technology was a disease-modifying small molecule, ELND005 (also known as AZD-103 or scyllo-inositol), designed to prevent and break down amyloid-beta aggregates in the brain. Founded on research from the University of Toronto and affiliated hospitals, the company utilized a genomics-based platform to identify targets for psychiatric and neurodegenerative conditions. In 2006, Ellipsis was fully acquired by Transition Therapeutics, which subsequently entered into a major collaboration with Elan Corporation to advance the Alzheimer's program into Phase 2 clinical trials. Although the company no longer operates independently, its assets significantly contributed to the landscape of amyloid-targeting research during the mid-2000s.
