Emerald Therapeutics

Emerald Therapeutics was a biotechnology company that developed a novel platform for programmable, DNA-based therapeutics designed to act as molecular computers within cells. Founded in 2010 and based in South San Francisco, the company aimed to engineer medicines that could autonomously detect viral signatures and trigger cell-specific destruction, primarily targeting the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). During the development of their therapeutic pipeline, the founders built a highly sophisticated automated laboratory system to manage their experiments. This internal infrastructure eventually became the company's primary focus, leading to the launch of Emerald Cloud Lab (ECL). Consequently, Emerald Therapeutics transitioned away from drug discovery to focus on providing remote-controlled robotic laboratory services to the broader scientific community.
