Emphasys

Emphasys Medical was a medical device company that pioneered minimally invasive solutions for patients suffering from severe emphysema. The company developed the Zephyr Endobronchial Valve (EBV), a one-way valve designed to achieve lung volume reduction without the need for major surgery. This technology works by occluding airflow to diseased regions of the lung, allowing them to deflate and reducing the pressure on the diaphragm. The Zephyr valve was the first of its kind to receive significant clinical validation and regulatory attention in the field of interventional pulmonology. In 2009, Emphasys Medical was acquired by Pulmonx, which successfully brought the technology through FDA approval and into global commercialization.
