Empi

Empi was a prominent medical device company specializing in non-invasive electrotherapy products for pain management and orthopedic rehabilitation. Founded in 1977 and headquartered in Minnesota, the company became a market leader in Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) technologies. Its product portfolio included widely recognized devices such as the Empi Select and the Phoenix system, which were used by physical therapists and patients for post-surgical recovery and chronic pain relief. Empi was acquired by DJO Global in 2006, significantly expanding its reach in the orthopedic market. However, in late 2015, DJO Global announced the closure of the Empi business unit following changes in the regulatory and reimbursement landscape.
