Company intelligence / Profile preview
Encode Pharmaceuticals was a development-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the treatment of rare metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. The company's primary focus was the development of EC Cysteamine (now known as Procysbi), a proprietary enteric-coated formulation of cysteamine bitartrate designed to improve gastrointestinal tolerance and reduce dosing frequency for patients with nephropathic cystinosis. Encode held an exclusive worldwide license for this technology from the University of California, San Diego. In December 2007, the company was acquired by Raptor Pharmaceuticals (which was later acquired by Horizon Therapeutics, now part of Amgen), leading to the eventual FDA approval of Procysbi in 2013.
